An artist's garden

click for a close up.

I would very much like to pretend that the beautiful, well kept garden above belongs to me but I am sure you know better, having already confessed to a multitude of gardening tasks to attend to. It actually belongs to the artist and gardener Judith Glover.

Judith opens her garden for charity and this year raised an amazing £1,100 as part of the NGS Open Garden scheme. Her garden is the source of inspiration for the many delicate, detailed watercolours she produces, many of which are reproduced onto greeting cards and stationery. You can see more of her work and read about her inspirational garden on her website.

And now, if you will allow me to indulge in a bit of maternal pride… our son James has written the music for her latest e-card called “Toy Box” and I have to say that it is my all time favourite. The music and images are a perfect match, please have a listen and see if you agree by following this link. I have watched it umpteen times and it makes me smile on each occasion. He has written music for some of her other cards on the site including Little Angel and Little Snowman but I think I like this one the most.

  1. Great! Love the card and music... really sweet!!
Ahhh, yes, the well kept garden.... mine is ever evolving and never really looks well kept - I just like a lot of the flowering weeds and so can't ever quite make myself clean it all out!

  2. Your son's music goes perfectly with the images on the card! I hope he gets a royalty every time someone purchases one of her cards! Tricky for artists of any kind with this digital age!! (re: royalties)

  4. Lovely music, your son is very clever.
It reminds me of a childrens fairy tale TV programme too.

  9. Hi Valerie! The garden is gorgeous...I watched the eCard with my daughter, and she absolutely loved it! She's just 8 months old, so she really has very little interest in television, etc., but the card definitely caught her attention - she watched the whole thing and cried when I put her down, lol. I'm sure the music played a major role in her enjoyment of the whole thing!

That garden is wonderful - she must have done a lot of watering - my lawn is brown!

  11. I am a big fan of Judiths work. I found your website through one of the comments Judith made on a blog. I love all the ecards and this one is no exception. The music is lovely.

  12. Thank you, Valerie, for the view of that beautiful garden, and for the introduction to the artisty of J Glover, and of your talented son.

I am most likely missing all sorts of wonderful e-cards being done here in the States, but just have to say that those from your side of the pond are truly delightful.

What an art form. So many possibilities. Hoping that you are exploring, since you've got the music already close at hand.

  13. Thank you so much Valerie for giving my new ecard such a lovely airing on your blog. When I first heard James Toy Box music I just laughed out loud - and I carried on smiling all the way through it - especially at the 'bubbling' effects he gave to the tin boat - which has now taken on a sort of surreal 'submarine' character!
He certainly brought the animation to life in a wonderful way and I can't wait to hear what he does for your amazing 'Bird with a Rainbow Tail' project.

  17. Love your black ink drawings and woodcut. I had a go many years ago at woodcut, doubt my eyes could do it now.
I think we are lucky to have such a choice of fine quality inkpens to produce wonderful detailed drawings. Your bird is beautiful. What an interesting project.
