Happy Saint George's Day!

"This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England".
William Shakespeare.

Although the tradition of wearing a red rose on St George's Day seems to have been forgotten I thought that I would post this image today. Over the past few years there seems to be a movement towards making today a National Holiday, maybe sometime we will be able to enjoy this day in much the same way as the Irish celebrate St Patrick's Day, which I am more than happy to do being married to an Irish man :- )

  6. I think it's Shakespeare's birthday today too. And my youngest son turns 31 today! Love the rose illustration on your blog! It would be great if they made this a national holiday for all the English people in the world to enjoy!

  10. It really would be such a great idea to make St Georges Day a National Holiday. Like others, when busy working, you have no time to even acknowledge it. A beautiful painting of an English Rose. x
