A bright and frosty beginning.

I have not ventured out of the house today as my wellington boots are in my car and my car is buried in snow! So much for my girl guide training to be prepared.

I took these photographs yesterday when the ground was hard and covered with frost, the fields looked so pretty, It brought to mind this song.

"Brightly shone the moon that night
Though the frost was cruel
When a poor man came in sight
Gath'ring winter fuel."

It is a pity that we do not burn logs because Ted just loves to collect firewood.

  1. Isn't it cold? We have had snow again this morning and I've got my wellies handy by the back door but have decided I'm staying in. Ted's bit of firewood looks nearly as long as he is! Great photos - stay warm:)

  3. Hello Valarie, I love your frosty morning photos and your wee doggie. I would take a frosty morning anyday compared to our over 20 inches of snow and OH, so cold. Hugs Judy

  4. Steven and Judy,

I feel we need lessons in how to survive in the cold, we take our mild climate for granted. Everything grinds to a halt here when we get a couple of inches of snow. I cannot imagine minus twenty or 20 inches of snow!

  5. No snow here today (yet?) but the ground is frozen rock solid and it's bitterly cold. This morning began with a firey orange/pink sky and became sunny and bright, but the clouds have started to close in - are they bringing the snow?

Glad to be back in the warm after coming home from the feed stores (corn for the hens and Tarragon and meat and veg for us). Now for an afternoon drawing in the studio :-)

What fun to have a firewood collector, not sure I can teach the cats to co-operate!
    Take care in the snow

  6. Love Ted - can I borrow him to collect the firewood we burn each day? Tess is far too busy eating up the grated cheese I scattered for the birds!

  8. isn't it fantastic? i might be a bit odd but I love it when we all grind to a halt. we have to use reserves and it makes us thrifty. I'm on the school run! hope we can sledge tomorrow!!

  9. Gorgeous photos, Valerie. And as for Ted bringing in that little log -- too cute for words. What a busy boy! We haven't had any snow here yet, but tons of oppressive grey skies and rain. The rain comes in all forms, heavy mist to total buckets. I did spot a big fat brief rainbow the other day which was a relief! Stay warm!

  10. Love the photos, I can just feel the crispness in the air. Oh wait did someone leave the door open?
We are in the teens with lots of snow, burr...
Our dog,Lync also loves to help bring in the wood for our fireplace. He also loves to chew on it.
    Enjoy the day.

  12. Wow--I do so envy you your cold weather. It is in the 50's here--and normally we're snowing and in the 30's.

It is odd that Oregon is one of the warmest places around this morning. Tch tch tch!

  15. Ted would like to thank his many admirers for their kind comments and above all for mistaking him for a pup. He will be ten years old in July.

  18. I'm watching the news each night to see how you are all faring in the cold and snow! It's summer here and toasty warm, in fact humid and damp is probably more accurate. Such beautiful photos - I almost wish I was there, almost. Ted is a darling, I'll bet he likes to snuggle up inside.

  25. Brrr... I know what you mean. It's been cold and snowy here as well. Winter brings with it a comforter of sorts. Made from warm memories, warm fires, and frosty walks in the woods. May you be warmed by your comforter this winter and always. Blessings to you and yours. Love and Light, Nina P
